UTS Experience Day

The University of Technology Sydney recently played host to 20 rural students from Balranald, Coonamble and Wee Waa. This life and learning opportunity was made possible through UTS's generous partnership with the Country Education Foundation (CEFA) and was offered to three CEFA communities as a way of stimulating greater interest in studying at university for rural youth.

The students were flown to Sydney to attend the highly successful UTS University Experience Day. Students were able to preselect subject areas of interest to them to explore on the day. Speaking with faculty staff, participating in fun practical activities and hearing from several rural students already studying at UTS helped to reduce anxieties some rural students may experience when having to relocate to undertake tertiary studies. While in Sydney, students travelled by ferry to Manly, explored Darling Harbour and the city as well as taking in a movie at IMAX and sampling new and interesting cuisine.

Thank you UTS for the opportunity and for opening many new doors for us to look behind. This trip has really impacted my life'.

Laine - Wee Waa High School
Being able to come to the UTS University Experience Day gave us great first hand experience of a university and a chance to understand all aspects of university life. The trip was really enjoyable and I would recommend other students take part in the future to see what university has to offer.

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from the country. I enjoyed seeing the students being forced out of their comfort zones. The trip was well organised and we really thank UTS and the Country Education
Foundation for putting all of this together and making such an experience possible

Peter Flowers, Principal Coonamble High School
I am so pleased that we came on the trip. The students have gained very valuable information and a good insight into university. None of my students had ever been to a university before and they now have a very positive impression of UTS. They are sure to pass this on to other students. I really enjoyed seeing the students interact with each other and trying new things (new cuisines for example). It was great to see them out of their comfort zones and extending their boundaries.
