Community Profile:

Living in rural Australia often makes if a lot more expensive for young people to achieve their post high school education and career goals as doing so often requires them to move away from home, travel long distances and incur additional day to day living costs.  To help with this, Narrabri has a local Education Foundation that provides grants to young people who need some assistance to help make the transition from high school a successful one.

The Narrabri Education Foundation embraces a broad range of education and career pursuits and doesn’t focus on the applicant’s academic success.  The selection criteria includes;

• The applicant has a realistic goal
• The applicant has showed commitment to achieving their goals in the past
• The applicant requires some financial assistance to be able to achieve their goal 

To date the Foundation has assisted 34 local youth with pursuits as diverse as apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, university degrees, diplomas and certificate level studies.  We have also assisted students into careers opportunities such as Jillerooing or Jackerooing.  The total of grants provided to date is $44,500.  

The Narrabri Education Foundation is currently accepting applications from students transitioning out of Year 10, 11 and 12 or from students who have deferred their university offer by no more than two years.  

If you feel your son or daughter would benefit from assistance from the Foundation, please ask them to complete an application form.

The closing date for financial assistance in 2009 is Friday 7th November and applications must be submitted on the Foundation’s standard application form.  Application forms are available from the Narrabri High School front office, the Narrabri TAFE college front office or can be downloaded from the following link  http://www.cef.org.au/narrabri.html and clicking on the application form button.
