UNSW commemorated 60 years of extraordinary achievement in 2009.
UNSW is renowned for the quality of its graduates and its commitment to new and creative approaches to education and research. Its motto – Scientia Manu et Mente ("Knowledge by Hand and Mind") – encapsulates the University's central philosophy of balancing the practical and the scholarly.
Established in 1949, UNSW has expanded rapidly and now has close to 40,000 students. The University offers more than 300 undergraduate and 600 postgraduate programs and has developed an extensive network of alumni chapters throughout Asia.
The main UNSW campus is located on a 38-hectare site at Kensington, seven kilometres from the centre of Sydney. Other campuses are the College of Fine Arts (Paddington), UNSW@ ADFA (Canberra), and sub-campuses at Randwick and Coogee, as well as research stations around NSW.
UNSW has a broad disciplinary base, with Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences; Built Environment; Engineering; Law; Medicine and Science, as well as the College of Fine Arts, UNSW@ADFA and the Australian School of Business.
HOW THE UNSW & CEFA PARTNERSHIP WORKS FOR CEFA STUDENTS
UNSW's commitment to helping greater numbers of rural youth achieve their tertiary goals is demonstrated by their Education Partnership with CEFA.
To support those rural students who receive grants from their local education foundations, UNSW provides additional financial assistance.
Eligiblity for co-funding from UNSW is based on the following criteria:
- Co-funding is only available to first-year students who have received grants from their local Education Foundations and who are currently studying as full-time undergraduates at UNSW
- Students will receive a dollar-for-dollar grant match unless the total of the grants of all CEFA students at UNSW in a particular year is greater than UNSW's annual allocation. If the annual limit is exceeded, CEFA will pro-rata the grants and cap co-funding at $1,500.
UNSW assistance for rural students
In 2011 UNSW will be awarding over 550 scholarships to High School Leavers coming to university. Rural students can apply for any scholarship available at UNSW for which they are eligible.
