Boorowa Shire.
Boorowa was originally known as "Burrowa". In 1850 when the town was designed and surveyed the name on the application, which went to the Executive Council for approval, was Boorowa. The meaning of Boorowa is a very grey area, the most popular translation being "Plain Turkey".
Boorowa dates back to the days of the explorers Hume and Hovell around 1821.
Boorowa is the where the original Education Foundation was launched and is known for it’s go-ahead attitude. The main street has recently been renovated and has the fresh and pretty look of a country town which has retained it’s historical value. It is a small shire with only 2500 people but it is a vibrant community dedicated to supporting it’s youth.
Annually it holds the Irish Woolfest featuring “The Running of the Sheep” which has become a huge regional event.
